Friends in Europe: Visit to Knaresborough, England

45 children - 15 from Primary 5 and 30 from Primary 6 - and four teachers arrived on Sunday 14th May at Herd Farm Residential for a 5-day visit to the three partner schools in Knaresborough – Meadowside Primary School, St John’s and Aspin Park School. It is the first time that children from Primary 5 have the great opportunity to travel to England, join the classes in the schools, practice English, make new friends and experience a different culture and a different style of education.

Apart from the initial icebreaker activities, there was a wide variety of activities at each school including a guided tour of Knaresborough, a sports afternoon and an afternoon tea with English host families. On their last day at school, our students did some fantastic presentations about our city, its culture, food and of course, about our school.

As a group on Thursday we went to the medieval city of York, where we had a pleasant walk through its beautiful streets and we enjoyed shopping in the Shambles. We also visited Jorvik Viking Centre to discover York's fascinating Viking legacy and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the Viking Age in York.

All in all a wonderful project!
