Let's build a telescope!
Inside the Now You See It, Now You Don't node in Early Childhood Education we continue to delve deeper into the idea that the world is much wider than we perceive with the naked eye. There are realities, details and phenomena that are out there, but that need tools in order to be observed. Understanding this fact helps us awaken curiosity and build a more attentive and scientific perspective.
This process is not just an engaging manual activity, but an experience full of questions, hypotheses and discoveries. While they design and assemble the instrument, they reflect on what it is used for, what it allows us to see and why we sometimes need technology to reach beyond what the eye can capture.
Building a telescope allows them to understand that observing is not just looking, but searching, focusing and interpreting. As a result, step by step, we are fostering an investigative attitude that invites them to question what they see and also what we know is there, even if they can't see it.
