Upper Secondary Seminars

In the context of our Human and Social Training programme, we offer our Upper Secondary students a series of seminars in the fields of science, technology, social, humanities, economics, art, music and spirituality, which broaden and deepen the themes that emerge during the course of the year.

The seminars are a privileged space for reflection and dialogue that contribute to rounding off a training process that we want to be comprehensive and help to establish vocations and outline future professional careers for our students.

Throughout the academic year we offer upwards of 25 seminars on various themes.

  • BUSINESS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, BUSINESS ETHICS AND MARKETING – by IQS Business.

Mathemagic

By Eduard Rovira, Mathematics teacher at Jesuïtes Sarrià-Sant Ignasi.

Do you like magic and maths? This seminar explores the relationship between maths and magic (sleight of hand with cards, numbers, mentalism, etc.) Though they may seem to be very distant disciplines, they meet at a certain point and complement each other. The seminar sessions explain the principles of probability, geometry and arithmetic through entertainment, sleight of hand and games of mental agility.

Fashion design. Evolution and fabrics.

By Mercè Jou, Design teacher at Jesuïtes Sarrià- Sant Ignasi.

Do you know what a muslin cloth is? And tweed?

Could you wear a boat neck collar or a halterneck? A mermaid-cut or a bias-cut skirt? This seminar focuses its gaze on the history of fashion, from the first trend-setting designers

to the latest stylistic contributions. We also discover and touch various fabrics and learn to recognise the volumes of garments.

Using all this knowledge, we propose to create a small fashion collection during the seminar.

First aid

By Marta Rojano, nurse at Jesuïtes Sarrià-Sant Ignasi.

Have you ever seen someone performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on TV and always wondered if this could happen around you? Would you know how to act?

First aid is a vital tool to safeguard life, and we don't know when, where or with whom we might need to apply it; it could be a stranger on the street, a colleague, a friend or a family member. Basic life support includes manoeuvres that can be learned and performed quickly, in order to keep an injured person alive until definitive care is given, and can be carried out by anyone who has been trained.

In the event of an accident, those who first come into contact with the injured person represent the vital link in the initial care of the patient. As a good friend once said... "Knowledge makes us responsible", so it's time to learn how to act in the event of an emergency, and in this seminar we will work in a practical way with simulations of real cases.

Medical seminar

By specialists from different fields of medicine:

  • Dr. Noemí Puig, Specialist in Surgery, Master in Diabetes, Metabolism and Nutrition Sant Pau and Master in Medicine and Aesthetic Surgery SEME, SECE
  • Dr. Mariona Roger Azemat, specialist inPrimary Care Pediatrics. Department of Pediatrics at Dexeus University Hospital.
  • Dr. Elvira Buxó Orra, specialist in Medical Oncology. Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and Mutua University Hospital of Terrassa.

Introduction to the Spanish legal system: guide to understanding your rights and responsibilities

By Nicolás Molina, Law and Global Studies Pompeu Fabra University. Beijing Foreign Studies University.

The seminar offers an introduction to the Spanish judicial system, explaining its hierarchical structure, from the courts of first instance to the Supreme Court, and the powers of each judicial body. The phases of civil and criminal proceedings and the types of resources available are detailed. The different professions involved are also explained, such as judges, prosecutors, court representatives and lawyers, and the fundamental principles that govern the system, such as judicial independence and the presumption of innocence.

The second part of the seminar will deal with the introduction to contracts: what a contract is, what types of contracts exist (verbal, written, electronic, etc.), what the essential elements are (consent, purpose and cause), what implications signing a contract has, the different ways to resolve it, and some examples of problematic contracts.
