The graduation of Jesuïtes Sarrià - Sant Ignasi's Upper Secondary Class 2025 was held on Friday 30 May.
Families and educators accompanied the 191 new graduates in a ceremony that was attended by the school's director general, Josep Maria Ramón; the head of Years 3 and 4 Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary, Helena Labarta; Pau Juan, mentor of Year 2 Upper Secondary; Juan N. García-Nieto, chair of the Alumni Association, and representatives of parents and student delegates.
Helena Labarta opened the event with a few words for the students: “Today, as we say goodbye to you at the school, I would like to talk to you about friends, people who are most likely sitting very close to you; and I would like to ask you to look after them, to be there for them not just when it's time to have fun, to be aware of what they may need, even if they don't ask you for anything. And now that you are leaving the school and life will most likely take you down very different paths, don't let preferences, opinions or beliefs drive you apart. May good luck and good friends be with you always."
This was followed by the speeches of the students' representatives who, in an anecdotal tone, told of their time at the school, thanked the families for having chosen Sant Ignasi for their education and thanked Sant Ignasi for everything they have taken away with them.
The students then listened to the speeches by Mr Font and Ms Casabayón, representatives of the parent delegates, who conveyed a message of gratitude to the school for its educational project and the values it transmits, and addressed some heartfelt words to their sons and daughters.
During the ceremony, Juan N. García-Nieto, chair of the Jesuïtes Sarrià - Sant Ignasi Alumni Association, handed out the awards for excellence in research work and welcomed all the boys and girls to the Alumni Association, encouraging them to uphold their links with the school. The team of tutors of Year 2 Upper Secondary together with Pau Juan, the course's mentor, and María Carmen Galindo, the head of the Upper Secondary department, presented the graduating class with their certificates of graduation. In his address, Pau Juan pointed to aspects such as the feeling of family, the knowledge that there is always someone you can count on, the ability to listen, the willingness to help, being determined and able to accept differences, and he recalled the motto of the schools of the Society of Jesus: “Enter to learn; go forth to serve”.
Lastly, Josep Maria Ramón, Director General of the school, took stock of the experiences at the school and congratulated the students for having completed a stage of their lives: “You are the school's best; without you there would be no reason for it to exist. Never stop striving to do better and with your hard work make a fairer and more liveable universe.”
He also thanked the educators and families warmly; the educators for accompanying the pupils in their magis, in their personal excellence, and the families “for influencing, for sowing, for guiding, for hinting and encouraging, for helping and lending a hand whenever necessary, for the love you have shown to your sons and daughters. Thank you for the unconditional support you have given to Sant Ignasi at all times and for choosing us as your school.”
Finally, he encouraged the students to become agents of change in the world: “Always be true to your ideals. Be happy and make others happy. Be bearers of the good news. May the world recognise in your life, in your professional action, that you have been educated at Saint Ignasi." He ended by bidding the students of the class of 2025 farewell with all his best wishes while reminding them that the school's door was always open to them.
This year to mark Josep Maria Ramón's retirement as the school's director general, two students from the graduating class spoke warmly to him on behalf of all their classmates: "Thank you for your watchful eye, your fair word and for supporting us on this journey not only as students but also as people who are growing. Today you are also graduating”. They then gave him a class sweatshirt.
The ceremony concluded with a cocktail reception in the school's entrance garden.
