Exchanges with the United States

24 students from 4th year lower secondary and 1st year upper secondary at Sant Ignasi have spent between two and three weeks on the East Coast of the United States to take classes in American classrooms.

This year, we have offered our students the chance to take part in various exchanges with four American schools:

Marymount School(New York): 3 students from 1st year of upper secondary.

Friends Seminary (New York): 5 students from 4th year of lower secondary.

Saint Peter's Prep (New Jersey): 2 from 4th year lower secondary and 10 from 1st year of upper secondary.

Oak Knoll (Summit, New Jersey): 2 students from 4th year lower secondary and 2 from 1st year upper secondary.

The activities they do during these stays are varied: they attend classes with their host buddy, enjoy outings and cultural and leisure activities with the host family, and visit New York City and some of its attractions such as the United Nations, the Empire State Building, Central Park, World Trade Center, Rockefeller Center, MoMA, Metropolitan Museum, Ellis Island, Liberty Island, etc.

The experience goes far beyond language learning or practice, since it involves a cultural adaptation to a new family, school, and society.

These exchanges involve a total immersion in the culture and academic life of an American school and enable our students to develop their language skills, their ability to excel and allow them to learn in an unfamiliar setting, adapting to different learning methodologies and a family different from their own.

At Sant Ignasi we are committed to opening up to the world in order to train people with an open mind, who are entrepreneurial, systemic and digital, with opportunities for global development. They are able to face the challenge of diversity and become agents of change in a complex and multicultural world.
