5th-year NIS students let their imaginations fly

The project Fem volar la imaginació (Let your imagination fly) revolves around the study of the figure of Leonardo da Vinci and his sketches and designs related to flight in particular. Based on research and observation of artistic and cultural works, 5th-year NEI students worked on the creative process by preparing a personal sketchbook to collect ideas, drawings and reflections. This process is accompanied by experimentation with different materials, techniques and supports to shape their own artistic production, inspired by Leonardo's designs.

Over the course of the project, the students plan and carry out their work following the phases of the creative process: research, plan, create and evaluate. This culminates in the development of their own artistic production, as well as the creation of a report documenting the process they followed.

As a final step, the works are presented in an exhibition at the school, which allows the results to be shared and the path taken to reach the final creation to be highlighted.

Here are the students' reflections:

  • This project has allowed me to develop my creativity, as I had to think about how to design a flying machine, build it and reflect on what went right and what went wrong.
  • I learned about the life of Leonardo da Vinci: who he was, what he did and why he was such an important figure.
  • I came to understand the difference between a drawing and a sketch, learn about their characteristics and practise drawing naturally.
  • With this project we learned that patience is very important in order to obtain a good result. Not everything turns out well the first time, so we did a number of tests using the sketchbook until we achieved a good final result.
  • We also learned to look for alternatives and novel solutions, which helped us make decisions and work with greater focus.
  • We really liked this project because it allowed us to engage our imaginations, foster our creativity, and we had a great time doing it.
  • Finally, one of the things we value most is teamwork, since working together, discussing and sharing ideas helps us to overcome challenges and understand each other better.
