In Upper Secondary we get up close to the world of work

In 2nd year Upper Secondary, all students are introduced to the reality of the world of work through visits to a range of companies and organisations. These visits help them to discover and cement their vocations and, of course, to make important decisions that will shape their career path.

Hospital Clínic

A university hospital founded in 1906 that belongs to the Catalan Network of Public Utility Hospitals. This network of hospitals covers almost all medical and surgical specialities and undertakes activities in the fields of care, research and teaching, either directly or through related companies.

At the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, our students attended a presentation given by Dr. Manuel Castellà, head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Service at Hospital Clínic Barcelona and professor at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Ms. Judith Prats, nurse at the Institut Clínic Cardiovascular (ICCV). They subsequently visited the operating theatres accompanied by Dr. Castellà.

Following this, they listened to the explanation of Dr. Pedro Castro, head of the Intensive Care Unit (AVI in Catalan) of Hospital Clínic Barcelona and professor at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and visited the AVI area of the hospital.

It provides document management services, information technology systems software and business process improvement strategies to governments, government suppliers, corporations and transnational organisations such as the European Space Agency.

Our students visited Accenture's facilities, taking part in Design Thinking. The World Experience and were able to hear about the different markets/businesses in which Accenture operates nationally and internationally.

Here is a compilation of our visit.

City of Justice

The City of Justice is the largest and most complex project of the Judicial Infrastructure Plan, undertaken by the Department of Justice. It symbolises the Government's will to bring justice closer to the citizens, modernising it and making it more convenient and accessible. The City of Justice hosts all the judicial bodies of Hospitalet and most of those of Barcelona.

The students attending the City of Justice attended a trial, visiting 10 courts (4 civil courts, 3 examining courts and 3 criminal courts).

Over the course of the past 10 years, the Lactalis Group, by acquiring leading companies in the Spanish market, has developed an expansion policy that has enabled it to achieve a leading position worldwide with recognised brands such as Président Profesional, Flor de Esgueva, Galbani El Ventero, Puleva, Gran Capitán, Don Bernardo, El Castillo, Chufi Ram, etc.

Our students were given a comprehensive tour of the company, visiting the commercial, marketing, sales, logistics and human resources areas.

The attending students were given a guided tour of Palo Alto-Magma Design, in which they learned first-hand about the different creative activities that are carried out and the sectors for which they work.

Hewlett Packard (HP)

The campus is staffed by upwards of 2,300 workers from 60 countries and produces around a hundred patents every year.

Our students visited the 3D printing research centre on the Sant Cugat campus with a group of young engineers from HP and learned first-hand about the technological activity being undertaken by a leading international company.

TV3 (Col·lapse)

COL·LAPSE is a Saturday night Late Night show. Advocates of good humour, the environment and culture. A refuge to look out on the world, comment on current affairs, hear testimonial stories and interview leading personalities such as Penélope Cruz, Ferran Adrià, Alexia Putellas, Woody Allen, Juanes, Santiago Segura, Samantha Hudson, etc.

The students who attended TV3 got to know how a television programme works. Before filming, they received a dossier with technical information on the programme, including the set list, a drawing of the set with the layout of the lights and cameras, and other information of interest to the students. One of the programme's editors then explained to them how a television programme is created, from planning to filming.

It is a privilege to be able to rely on the collaboration of these organisations and the people who have helped us to prepare this activity.
