Sustainability project with Zone College (Netherlands)

For the second year, we are carrying out an exchange project on Global Citizenship with the Zone College school in the Netherlands. From the 11th to the 18th of November, the Sant Ignasi school hosted 16 students and 5 teachers from the Zone College school in Twello, the Netherlands.

The project, in the format of an exchange with a stay with families, is a curricular project, in English, of global citizenship, framed in the scientific project of 4th ESO, focused on the subject of sustainability. The participation consists of 15 students from our school, with the help, leadership and support of their science teachers.

The project, in the format of an exchange with a stay with families, is a curricular project, in English, of global citizenship, framed in the scientific project of 4th ESO, focused on the subject of sustainability. The participation consists of 15 students from our school, with the help, leadership and support of their science teachers.

The activities have included research on various topics: the ecological footprint, thesustainable development goals, the relations between some countries and others, the impact of the climate crisis on human migrations, and on the adaptations to the climate of the flora and fauna that surround us. The aim is not only to be aware of what this climate emergency entails, but also to reflect together on actions and proposals.

There have also been visits and technical outings, to complement the reflections, and achieve more experiential learning: a workshop and a visit to the Science Museum, a visit to the Desalinizatora, a practical outing to Collserola, and a talk at Migrastudium . Zone College students also enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Sagrada Familia temple.

Apart from the students and teachers of Twello, we were able to count on the support of 4 students from the University of Windeshein, in the Netherlands. These university students are staying in Barcelona, working together with Zone College and Sant Ignasi on other topics of Global Citizenship.

The experience has been positively evaluated by the students and teachers of the two schools; and they are all looking forward to being able to do the second part of the project (next June), this time in the Netherlands, where they will also meet students from 2 schools in Romania. There they will continue the tasks started in Barcelona, and try to reach common conclusions.

This project is co-financed by SEPIE/Erasmus +
