Start of the school year at the Hospitality School

The Hospitality and Tourism department of Sant Ignasi Professional Studies begins the academic year with several motivating and team bonding activities.

The Advanced Vocational Education and Training course in Culinary Management begins with a high-level creative challenge

The introductory week of the Advanced Vocational Education and Training in Culinary Management began with a symbolic flight: an activity that combined gastronomy, creativity and teamwork, bringing together 1st and 2nd year students for the first time, with the new students learning the ropes and the veterans acting as leaders and mentors.

The proposal, presented as a metaphor of a plane journey, started with a group draw using personalised passports and boarding passes that assigned destinations. Each team had to design the dining options on board, with a lunch and dinner service, balanced according to the Harvard Plate system and with a cost of less than €2.50 per menu.

The dishes, in addition, had to have a cultural link to the flight's origin and destination, and be prepared with the notion that it would be regenerated at the time of service, as is the case in commercial aviation. As a result, the challenge not only tested the students' culinary technique, but also their organisational skills, cost management and sensitivity to cultural diversity.

The task became a stimulating first activity: for first-year students, deep immersion in the dynamics of professional cooking; for second-year students, an opportunity to develop leadership skills and to pass on their knowledge.

Through this challenge, the Advanced Vocational Education and Training course in Culinary Management reaffirms its commitment to experiential learning and real-life situations of the trade, transforming the first week of the course into an experience that, more than a mere introduction, allowed them to really take off.

Castells and cohesion: the starter activity in the 3rd year of Hospitality

Within the framework of the welcome week for the 2025-2026 academic year, the 3rd year Hospitality students participated in an activity inspired by the world of castells (human towers), atthe Colla Castellera Minyons de Terrassa. Based on a brief cultural introduction and an overview of the roles, figures, and different structures of a castell, the students were able to reflect on the importance of teamwork, trust, and camaraderie.

The session culminated with a practical activity that allowed the participants to experience these values in a hands-on way. An enriching way to start the course with cohesion, mutual understanding, and team spirit.

A day of cultural exchange with students from Finland

The 1st year students of the Advanced Vocational Education and Training in Tourist Accommodation had a very enriching experience thanks to the visit of a group of students from Finland. Over the course of a day, they had the opportunity to live together, share experiences, and discover each other's cultures, traditions, and ways of understanding education.

The activity began with a presentation by the Finnish students, who explained key aspects of their culture, such as popular festivals, typical foods, and the close relationship they have with nature. Our students, for their part, gave a presentation on Catalan culture, highlighting its traditions and gastronomy.

It was undoubtedly a very positive experience that has enriched both the academic and personal perspectives of all involved.
